Developing a cognitive frame of reference as to what is going on is crucial in the healing process. This may have to do with understanding biology, psychology, relationships, awareness of underlying beliefs, nutrition, sleep, habits or life stressors. This understanding changes over time for both patient and clinician as more and more reveals itself as pertinent. The initial stages of therapy often center on getting a sense of what is going on and what can be done to help.
